Joker Mashup... with Marcie?

No reindeer are pausing...

It's "Cubcake" up on the roof, snug in her insulated super-suit. She's staking out the seedy bar across the street.

It's not exactly Christmas, but the snow is helping her stay out of sight. She'll be ready to pounce on some thugs when they come out. And she's still wearing a cute scarf, even though she really doesn't need it.

Siggraph 2015

Didn't get there in time for any seminars or movies, but lots of learning opportunities for students to make their own toys, robots, gadgets, etc. Young people are doing more with laser cutters and 3D printers.

 

Also demos on more total immersion with virtual reality systems. The vendor floor was smaller than usual, but the Foundry, Autodesk , Mocha and some pipeline system companies were there.

Green Lantern vs. Tweety Bird

Lately, I've sort of been competing with Ross over at http://braveandboldlost.blogspot.com/

Ross does marvelous comic covers with different superheroes who would not normally get together. This is usually due to copyright issues between Marvel, DC and other comic book publishers. My mashups have a more humorous bent, and I feel like picking on Green Lantern this morning.

Most comic fans will know the back story of the Green Lanterns, and the limits imposed on them by the Guardians of the Universe. If you dig this cover, then I don't need to belabor the point. 

I'll admit that I enjoyed the Darkest Night series, but I always think twice when I pick up a GL comic. Looking back on Hal Jordan's rough past, I can see him taking the place of Star-Lord in "Guardians".
 I'm still skeptical of most super hero movies. Phantom Menace really let me down, and I saw Green Lantern on the plane once(and tried to walk out.)

 After a bunch of lerpy Silver Age adventures where a character like Tweety could cause as much trouble as Mr. Mxyzptlk or Batmite, Denny O'Neil and Neal Adams put Green Lantern on a much more dramatic course in 1970.

No more mustard, lemons or banana peels now folks.

Beany and Cecil - Rocky and Bullwinkle Saturday Morning Mashup

Okay, I haven't posted in awhile, and I needed to cause some mischief between Halloween and Thanksgiving: What if the classic Saturday morning teams of Rocky and Bullwinkle had to swap partners with Beany and Cecil? No, not that kind of swap! I was feeling nostalgic again, and wondered how much fun a team-up with Rocky and Cecil, and Beany and Bullwinkle would be in a 60's Saturday Morning Mashup. I've Googled this, and no one else seems to have done it before, so I went for broke.

We basically still have young, plucky little guys with big, dumb but lovable buddies. Technically, I think it would work. Dishonest John would still get the better of Bullwinkle (until the end). And I'll bet Cecil would love to thrash Boris Badenov.

I did something like this with Johnny Socko and the Iron Giant last year. I think this would be fun:)

UPDATE: Bullwinkle DID team up with Beany Boy briefly on an ad for Thermos lunchboxes. Looks like the mid 1960's to me.

Turing pattern generators

Finally, some cool Turing pattern generators. Have to use screengrabs to get them into Photoshop. Should be able to convert them into Illustrator curves to send them into Maya to create geometry. Still want to get them into Flash, later. The texrd.com website has a very cool free software. My hat's off to them.

Olympic Phoenix

I watched practically none of the Olympics, but I enjoyed the closing ceremony performances. Seeing the Phoenix rising while the Olympic flames were going out moved me to sketch this up starting in Autodesk Sketchbook and finishing in Photoshop. Nice to think the flame will keep going...

Labyrinth built in Maya using Turing patterns

Took a Turing pattern off the internet, converted it into an Illustrator file, then imported it into Maya. From there, lofted the geometry from curves. Done!

Finally feeling like I'm getting a line down with this thing. Having CS3 sure helps.

Herman Bear is reeling from Pandora Cubcake's new outfit. I'm not sure I'm going to keep her with a "Pandora's Box", but instead give her a power crystal like sort of like Dr. Spectrum's...Hmmm....But having things come out of the box still gives me plenty opportunities for stories...

I was going over my thumbnails from the beginning of 2008, and I still have a Hell of alot of work to do. I was admiring the new "Seaweed" graphic novel, and feeling a bit crushed.
